Darryl Annett

Darryl Annett has joined Ballarat Lawyers bringing over thirty years of experience and expertise in the practice of criminal law.

Darryl was born in Hamilton, and after completing law at Monash University he has had a diverse and successful legal career in the private sector and the government sector, in criminal defence advocacy and criminal prosecution work.  Darryl’s career includes working at the Office of Public Prosecutions where he was recruited to prosecute committal proceedings and went on to manage the General Prosecutions division and ultimately to the role of Deputy Solicitor for Public Prosecutions.  From there he joined Robert Stary and Associates as a criminal advocate and managed the firm’s Ringwood office.

His career has also included appointments as Deputy Chair of the Business Licensing Authority, Chair of the Motor Car Traders Guarantee Claims Committee and he is currently a Sessional Member of the Mental Health Tribunal.

Darryl has a commitment to social justice and joins Ballarat Lawyers after seven years working in the Not For Profit legal sector, firstly launching the Urban Justice Centre, a legal support service integrated into a suite of support services for the homeless, or those at risk of homelessness, the marginalized, those with a mental illness and who are displaced and dispossessed.

The operation of Urban Justice Centre developed into appointment as the inaugural Melbourne partner of the social enterprise law firm, Salvos Legal Humanitarian in March 2017 in order to establish the firm’s Melbourne office.  Salvos Legal Humanitarian was part of an award-winning social enterprise law firm with offices in Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne, wholly owned and operated by The Salvation Army.  The firm provided free legal services to people in need and who were otherwise ineligible or unable to access legal advice and support elsewhere.

Darryl remains active in local community and is a Director of Merri Community Health Services, a not for profit community health provider delivering a range of services including Carer Support, Aged Care services, Disability Support, Dental and Mental Health services.
